Our History, Hotel Spa Watel

The hotel proudly bears its name in memory of Paul Watel, a French personality who spent many years living half a year in Sainte- Agathe des monts and the other half in Paris.  He got married with Fleurange Nantel and became the brother-in-law of Athanase David; Mr David was a deputy for 25 years and was nominated senator afterwards. It its beginning, in 1989, the property was known as Auberge Watel.  This was a family bungalow owned by the Streiker's who converted it to a lodge.

The opening

ince its opening, it evolves constantly with the addition of 10 luxurious rooms, meeting rooms, elevator, outdoor games, terraces, two pools, eight Jacuzzis, a cold bath, two saunas and four spa treatment rooms.  With all these services, the owners decided, in 2010, to change the property’s name to reflect the extent of the services offered;  Auberge Watel became Hotel Spa Watel.

In 2011, the Corporation de l’industrie touristique du Québec renewed the classification certificate of the hotel by adding a star. Hotel Spa Watel is classified a 4-star hotel due to all the investments done. Aware of its environmental impact, Hotel Spa Watel has decidedly gone green and has earned 4 green keys from Green Key, the Canadian environmental evaluation program. Lise and Claude Fleurent are the Hotel Spa Watel founders; they still own the hotel and are always happy to welcome their guests.

We are the smallest 4 star hotel in Quebec offering many services; in addition our Spas are only available for our guests. Within your stay, you have access to all of our facilities at no extra charge ; saunas, dry steam, shower massage, 6 interior and exterior spas, indoor and outdoor swimming pools (summer) and four massage rooms and body treatments.

We now have 6 signature suites, these suites all have a view of the lake, 3 have a balcony, the equipment of the signature suites includes king size bed, double swirl by the bed, gas fireplace, lake view, Keurig coffee maker, sheets have 300 thread count.

Information concerning the classification of a hotel

The classification of a hotel establishment is carried out by the C.I.T.Q. (Tourism Industry Corporation of Quebec). The 4-star classification of the Hotel Spa Watel is calculated according to the average of services and criteria obtained, namely:

• Room 40%
• Bathroom 20%
• Domestic services and facilities 13.5%
• Exterior of the building and on-site activities 13%

The total points obtained on these five rating criterias allowed us to reach a 4-star classification, while having three types of rooms, namely, six classic, fifteen superior and ten suites. Finally, an important aspect of this exercise is the general state of these classified elements. The upkeep and maintenance of elements in each of these elements is an integral part of the assessment. The rating of the general condition corresponds to 22% of the total evaluation of a hotel.
